Film Title Sequence

Film Title Sequence

We decided to use this logo as our final result that we can put into our film opening, after trying with various designs we decide to go with this font and colour as it went with the basis and feel of the film the font is superhero like while the colour is mare or less location based as we are filming in the desert and the goldish font corroborates that we were filming in the desert and adds to the scenic feel

First film Draft focus group/ Analysis

Focus Group of film attempt

this our first review of the film attempt we made we showed it to an audience member of our desired specifications and we asked him questions on what he thought of the film, what needed to be improved and how we could make it better in general getting a few suggestions from the member of audience so we could reflect on what to do for our finished product. These types of sessions have helped us evaluate or audience and what needs they have when it comes to a film

First film Draft

Filming attempt 1

This is our first film attempt as we work towards our final film, we encountered a few a few problems along the way including problems with camera stabilisation and jumps between the scenes as the following action looked different at times with the shot including a shot with the hoodie being off and then back on the actors head jumping to the next scene another fault that we encountered in post production was  that a shadow of the videographer within the shot these are just a few things we can improve on one of the main aspects of the film we should be working towards fixing is the stabilisation of the shots as that can take the immersion of the film away as people will be distracted by the swaying of the camera

Location planning/location set up

Location planning

we visited multiple locations before coming to the conclusion that we should film in the desert as the first two locations seemed either to busy or over crowded to actually use to film so we decided the desert and went to check it out it was quiet and it had the perfect setting for our film so we took shots and scheduled a time to go and film

We first tried a city location to film, we investigated different ares within the city as we thought that the setting was quite nice with the futuristic feeling towards it the problem with filming there, there was too many distractions and problems like not being able to film in that specific location depending whether it was the public having a problem or the buildings around us having a problem resulting in us not choosing this specific location and trying another.

Souq Waiqf was another suggested location to film as it fitted some form mystical environment like a city in the middle of a desert but due to cultural reasons we couldn't film there so we moved on quite quickly but the public atmosphere of the location was quite good, the location was spacious but filled with a very detailed background compared to the other location which was very crowded and filled with different people who wouldn't mind their own business so we decided to go and find another set which shifted our film into something else

Casting

Cast

Adam Jones (Me) :Actor, Character: Tatarian

I was chosen as the actor/villain as I seemed to have the height and build for the character, i was also told i was chosen as i was quite confident with acting and comfortable with the role idea,so we went ahead with that as i am an amateur actor who could play the role needed

Amber Pollard :Actor,Character: Mia /Costume designer

Amber was chosen as the actor and costume designer as she was an art student so she could design proper costumes and told the visual aspects of the characters to the film being able to get the clothing and colour schemes right for the costume she had also done some acting for a previous task we did so we decided too cast her for the main character role in the movie, this turned out well for us

Nasri Iskander : Director/videographer

we decided to choose nasri as the director as he is a person who we think could lead our media group as he could take control of the scenes and be able to create a stable and easy workspace for us to use, he also was a videographer as he had the capabilities as he knew how to achieve the shots we needed as well he had very stable stands so we could easily shoot hand held

Jacob Gay : Editor/videographer

We decided to cast Jacob as our editor and videographer as he was the best person for both jobs as it is strong suit he finds editing easy and enjoyable so we decided that he is the best choice to edit our film he is also a very talented videographer in which he takes very well to no matter what situation he's in

BBFC Rating

BBFC Rating

For our film we have decided to give the rating of 15+ as it follows with the genre and film of our film as it may be a bit aggressive and violent for kids, our film sets a serious tone as compared to other superhero films like the avengers or iron man which would get a 12 + rating. Some superhero movies are quite serious in some occasions compared to others like batman vs superman which would receive a similar rating like 15+

Prop List

 Prop List

We ended up having one prop for our film as it was low budget as well as we didn't need props other than one to create our idea and vision for the film as we are quite confident on the editing and acting skills that it wasn't needed to incorporate a majority of props

This prop is not in the final film as changes in plot changed

Costume planning

Costume Planning

Over 3 to 4 weeks we went though an array of costume ideas and came up with these for our rough film draft as we thought these were suitable for the time we wanted film as we wanted to atlas practice for our roles and come up with a preferred finalised idea

We decided to go for this type of look in our film for our main actress as it allowed her to fit in with the surroundings of the planet/area she is in allowing her to seem like she is part of the wasteland and she has been there for a while adding more depth to the character as well as a greater understanding of what the people are like in the world we have created. For our main actor we decided to use a very different look as it allowed the actor/character to seem out of place within the wasteland like he is from some other world, for the time being we used very different and basic changes in clothing to create this affect which we will develop later on as production towards our final draft continues but for the time being this was used to create the affect that the character was from a different world

Opening credits of show

Opening sequence analysis

An opening sequence is something that is used in most if not all working titles and it used to show the most important members of production as the film, show or any production uses this as they open the show to the audience members showing the main people behind in making the production as the show is about to start also placing images in the background for reference to what the show is. An opening sequence is a sequence before any film which is subject to to crediting its production team in reference to the show/film usually playing ,music in the background as well an opening sequence can either use a black screen or images within the sequence this is something that is up to the producer.

DareDevil Opening sequence

In the opening sequence of credits the main base colour is red as hot is relating to the character and his infatuation with the colour red as well as his appearance and name "DareDevil".The figures are mostly made up of red liquids likely symbolising blood, the colour is likely used to show strength and maybe danger of the main character. The opening sequence also shows the city the show seems to be based in "Hells Kitchen" which is based in america, it shows this by creating figures out of the liquids that are national landmarks in america that are in New York city later on it starts slowly building a figure that is in the form of a masked crusader that has is back turned against the viewer while creating a base title of the show with a bleeding effect.

Title Analysis

Title analysis

The font used for a films title is important as it should blend with the movies concept, genre and narrative of the film. For our own film we looked and different movies for inspiration towards the final outcome of the course

Machete uses a very Red and dark effect to add to the feel of the film creating a form of tone that is quite dark and bloody, the title also shows the main character standing over the title giving a figure of empowerment over the movie sequence, the film has a very serious tone to it and you can also tell that by looking at the titles imaging

Insidious has a very dark and red fonted title creating a very serious look towards it red is also demonic in relation to the film and its story its a horror film and red has a relation towards it, this film title gives a feel and idea towards the film and what it does to the audience as they anticipate what is going to happen after the title sequence

The Great Gatsby has a very golden and rich look towards the title sequence it seems to be very posh and brand feel towards it,it also gives an idea that the film isn't a very modern based one as the designs around the title as well as the font itself has a very oldish feel towards it but creating the idea of wealth or money by the colours. It gives the audience the idea the film is based within a time period that is not to long ago but quite old like mid 1930's but is  also based round some form of wealth.

as you can see each title has some relation to the movie and its genre like with great Gatsby the type of art decoration it uses is based round the 1920/30's as that was the time the events took place while Machete uses a red base color for the whole title sequence resembling blood as it is quite a gory action movie.Movies always try to follow what the film is doing by adding titles that resembles the idea they want to push towards audience and what film it is.If the font is curly and oink the wouldn't associate it with a horror film the same would go with a kids a kids movie if they were to do the opposite, putting a scary title for a kids film. This is why association with the film and title is a mandatory in order to make the understanding of a film possible

Audience profile

                                                                         Audience Profile

Here is Zac he is our main audience target as he is 18 years of age and our target audience is between 16 - 24. Super hero movies usually tailor to these ages within an audience. Zac is in his last year of high school andhe is taking a course in media, he usually spendshis free time watching movies and tv shows instad of going out and partying he prefers to watch a more fantasy/ superhero based show or movie as he finds them more interesting compared to normal shows. His favourite shows consist of te flash and arrow as they have a reation to each other and the characters within the series lie within the sae worlds and have cross overs betwen them.Zac is a more sociable person who likes to have lolng conversatoinsa about advanced topics aswell as being able to start a conversation with anyone at anytime which he considers a trait in its own right. Zac also has a very good relationship with his family and freinds rarely having any problems this is why we choose people like him for our films as he i prime example as a passionate fan of the gengre .We have specifically chosen this age group as we feel they will be most interested within our film. People of the younger ages prefer films with more action to it rather than just a normal story, ranging from special effects to costumes the audience may feel more interested within the film and what is going on within the shots as it is more engaging

Audience Research Focus Group video

Audience Research Focus group video

This is our focus group video we decided to do as we wanted to get a general idea of what an audience wants when they watch a superhero film (our genre of film) We showed them a trailer for a film and we asked a specific list of questions to understand what they like and don't like in a superhero film and what they wanted to see more within a superhero film so we decided to take the results of the test and add that towards we we were going to do for our film as we thought that it would be advantageous to us to implement what people prefer in films compared to what we would think is what people like. We conduct these types of research in order to make a best film suitable for our audience, a lot of major film studios do the same but instead of using focus groups they use market research by seeing whats popular in the film market. As we are not a major studio we have to conduct our research into focus groups allowing us to get small majority opinions on what things they like about our genre of film and what they'd like to see

Questionnaire Results

 Questionnaire Results

a
fter showing them the video we decided to question them on whether they thought a superhero has superpowers and a majority of them about 60 percent of them said that they don't need super powers as it is the person not the powers they possess

Here we asked whether they preferred their heroes to be born with their powers probably resulting in a fairly average backstory or a hero who is given their powers after a freak accident which provides a more interesting/entertaining backstory as well as one that people can get behind which the majority has chosen that a freak accident would be better

We asked if the hero should have multiple  powers adding to the depth of the character him/herself and a majority of the people preferred if the character had one as it would solely resonate with them

Here we asked whether the film should be based in a location with a high population adding to the drama raising it as life would be at risk if there was a fight between two people with powers, it was quite a split decision as some people liked the idea and some didn't creating the split vote

Here we asked whether the hero needed assistance with what they are doing or who they are fighting using technology as an advantage/ edge in their challenge. Some heroes actually need this as they don't have powers in order to help themselves. So the votes were quite split as well resulting in the non gadget heroes having a slight vote over with gadgets

here we asked whether the superhero should have been given their powers through an experiment or not, resulting in another form of backstory thickening the characters depth and story as well as motives so a majority of people voted yes as they would prefer a hero with some form of backstory

We asked here what gender they would prefer their hero to be and we got a majority vote of 65 % towards a female hero which contradicts the stern types of males as a lead role in a hero movie or a male as the hero within the main movie creating diversity within a film crowd and showing that the modern day audience has changed

we also asked if they thought the hero should be a teenager or adult changing the characters personality quite a lot as a younger hero might not have that much experience with their powers compared to heroes who do have experience with their powers likely being adults, but the vote went towards a younger hero as they are more likely to have a longer shelf life compared to older heroes

Here we asked whether they wanted the hero to be miss understood or hated by the people even if they are good creating a backlash towards the different as why do they get to be privileged and powered compared to everyone else this resulted in a resounding vote towards the hero being criticised to some form

Here we asked whether the hero should have some form of weapon they could use to either one just use or one they draw power from and we got a resounding no towards that as it would take away from the character and his actual/general power

Here as our last question we asked whether the audience preferred to have their own sidekick to help them with various activities and tasks, surprisingly more than 50 percent of the people voted towards actually having a sidekick which seemed to be quite preferred among audience members

Gender Representation analysis

Gender Representation analysis

Gender representation in movies vary to the genre and story of the movie as well as the characteristics and personalities of the characters in themselves like a villain either it be male or female can be strong, smart heartless while a hero is likely to have certain characteristics between genders while the male is quite strong in most aspects in superheros films the female is more or less based as a slightly weaker or more intellectual character. Males in most movies are seen to be the main characters/lead when it comes to more physical roles or roles you would likely associate with a man while playing as women in film may be associated with more dramatic and emotional characters within a film and its genre. A genre will always represent a gender different to the other making either the female or male more prominent in the role and how they are seen/perceived to the audience. When the audience sees a man as a leading role they expect a very stable strong role that will take control of the situation and when the audience sees a female they expect a more emotional role than a action like role instead a more vocal role that takes the situation into account. Genders in film are always taken into account when films are being cast as well as what the character needs to be

as you can tell in superhero movies the main type of character is directed towards the male while the female seems to play more of a supportive role while the males take the lead in the situation. Males are perceived in film as the more tough and serious roles while females take more of a supporting dramatic role within the movie genre we are following.
